In the aisle
Standing in front of the shelf wondering if it's actually a deal? Scan the barcode and LastBought tells you what you paid last time, where, and how long ago — from your own receipts, not a guess.
Optional, and free
Free, from Google — takes about a minute. Only needed for receipts our on-device scanner has trouble with: faded print, unusual layouts, or a store LastBought hasn't seen before. Everything else already works without it.
Go to aistudio.google.com/api-keys and sign in with any Google account.
Click "Create API key." Pick or create a project if asked — the free tier needs no billing setup.
Google generates a long string of letters and numbers — copy it.
In LastBought, go to Settings → Smart parsing (Gemini), paste it in, and tap Save.
Flip "Send receipt text to Gemini" in that same screen — a key on its own does nothing until this is on. Once it is, garbled item names get cleaned up automatically, and receipts from stores LastBought hasn't learned yet can still be read.
Your key stays yours. It's stored only on your phone and used to talk to Google directly — we never receive it and have no access to it. Turn the toggle off, or remove the key, at any time to stop this.
